THE HORROR DRUNX REVIEWS
OCTOBER 2008
RESURRECTION MARY
The Horror Drunx DVD review
by Bob Hopeless

The problem with most ghost stories on film is they just aren’t very scary and have all been done before. I’m excited to say that this film doesn’t fit into that category!
I was really excited when I found out this film is based on perhaps one of the best documented real ghost stories and urban myths of our time, Resurrection Mary. And I was not let down one bit by this movie!
If you don’t know this story... "Mary" is a young woman who appears along Archer Road (near the real Resurrection Cemetery) in the Chicago area. Many people have reported almost hitting her with their cars and several have even picked her up and given this ghost a ride. She thanks them for the ride and asks to get out of the car outside of the cemetery, then just vanishes! Those who have talked to her says she identifies herself only as "Mary" is wearing a white evening dress, and often says she is coming home from dancing at a local night club.
Apparently there really was a teenaged "Mary" that was killed by a hit and run driver along this stretch of road in the 1940's and she is actually buried in Resurrection Cemetery. Chilling and true!
In this film actor Kevin G. Schmidt plays a young man who survived a car accident that his parents were killed in while trying to avoid hitting Mary. Now years later, driving along the same road, he nearly hits her. He gives her a ride not realizing she is a ghost and the two hit it off, falling in love... With Schmidt and her starting to see each other. Meanwhile all of his friends begin dying off in grisly ways and the police begin to suspect the troubled boy of murdering them.
I won’t give any more away, because I think you are really going to like this great little film with its tight story and solid performances. There are some real chills that will put a shiver up your spine and some story twists that will grab you like a cold hand on a dark night!
Directed by Sean Michael Beyer and starring Kevin G. Schmidt, Academy Award nominated actress Sally Kirkland, and I have developed a crush on newcomer Pamela Jean as "Mary" the ghostess with the mostess.
Available from Entertainment Studios (I think you can order it online at www.es.tv) the special features on the DVD include a Cast and Crew commentary, Original Theatrical Trailer, Making of Documentary, out takes and deleted scenes and some bloopers. The film is also fairly new to DVD, having only been released at the end of August 2008
I’d highly recommend this film and will be watching for the next film from Beyer!
